    Topic:

Housing continues to pose one of the greatest energy efficiency challenges in Ireland. A considerable portion of older housing performs poorly when compared with those built to the current standards. Retrofitting Ireland’s housing stock is essential in meeting our binding climate change targets.

Deep retrofit involves significantly upgrading the energy efficiency of a building, as well as considering renewable sources of energy. SEAI estimates that a sum of over €35 billion will be required over 35 years to make the existing housing stock low carbon by 2050.

The Deep Retrofit Pilot Programme is investigating the challenges and opportunities of deep retrofit of homes in Ireland. The learning from these pilots will inform the large scale deep retrofit of buildings in Ireland. Conor will present on the learnings so far and the opportunities for the construction sector in upgrading Ireland’s housing stock.
